Training for EBC

Making High Altitude a Team Effort

Making High Altitude a Team Effort
“The team training treks before EBC made all the difference.”

Ansi and Anand were not new to multi-day hiking when they began preparing for Everest Base Camp. What was new was the structure: an organized training plan focused on trek-specific fitness rather than simply accumulating hiking miles.

Mike introduced concepts such as Zone 2 training and functional threshold, giving the preparation a more deliberate physiological foundation. Ansi found that focused work valuable when it came time to take on EBC.

She also points to something less measurable but equally important: team meetings and group-building hikes before a major high-altitude trek. For Ansi, preparing together before departure was both useful and distinctive—and an important part of being ready for the experience as a group.
