Mark was 73 and had limited recent hiking experience when Mike encouraged him to join a three-week trek in Nepal. The destination was far outside what Mark had imagined himself doing, which made preparation—not bravado—the essential first step.
Mike developed and monitored a training program for the demands ahead, then stayed involved through the trek with guidance and encouragement. Just as important, the itinerary itself was designed to give the group a realistic path to success rather than simply asking everyone to keep up.
The result was an adventure in a part of the world Mark never expected to experience. He credits the combination of planning, training, patience and support with helping him arrive confident enough to meet the challenges and enjoy what became a memorable trip.
